Dodge Intrepid Parts

After a lengthy use of different body platforms which are almost the same except for a few features, Chrysler tried to use an entirely different platform, the LH body platform. This platform is actually borrowed from Honda and used for their cars which they name the LH series. One of these cars, and the most affordable in the series, is the Dodge Intrepid.

The Dodge Intrepid is a mid-size sedan based on the LH body platform. As with the other LH cars, the Dodge Intrepid is a front-wheel drive and has a cab-forward design. There were two generations of the car; the first extending for 5 years from 1993 to 1997, while the second generation was introduced in 1998 and lasted until 2004. The Dodge Intrepid, along with the other LH cars, was dropped by Chrysler in its 2005 model line-up and was replaced by cars using the LX body platform.

Upon introduction in 1993, the Dodge Intrepid was a large mid-size sedan and offered as the most affordable in the LH series, which also includes the Eagle Vision and the Chrysler Concorde. The car came standard with a 3.3 liter V6 while a 3.5 liter V6 was available as option. A 4-speed automatic shift was also standard for all trims. The base trim comes with front-disc/rear-drum brakes while the sportier ES trim comes with 4-wheel disc brakes.

The second generation Dodge Intrepid, which was introduced in 1998, was equipped with smaller but more powerful engines. The base model came with a 2.7 liter V6 that outputs 200 horsepower while the sportier ES trim came equipped with a 3.2 liter V6 that produces 225 horses. Base trim Intrepids were equipped with a 4-speed automatic transmission unit while the ES trim was equipped with the Autostick, a transmission unit that can shift between manual and automatic.

The Dodge Intrepid was included in the Car and Driver magazine's Ten Best list in 1993, 1994, 1998, and 1999. This is a proof of the car's impressive performance. But its popularity seems to last only two years after a major redesign. This may be because other competitors are quick in catching up and surpassing whatever the Dodge Intrepid has to offer.
