Dodge Diplomat Parts

The Dodge Diplomat is not totally rare nowadays, as you can still see them if you look into police stations as police cars, or as taxi cabs. But considering that the last Dodge Diplomat rolled off the production line way back in 1989, the body and mechanical parts of this car must be really tough. The Dodge Diplomat was really known as a reliable and durable car, surviving 12 years in the market with only a few yearly changes.

Before the Dodge Diplomat model was actually released by Chrysler, there have been many Dodge cars that used the name Diplomat. The name Diplomat was first used to denote the coupe variant of the Dodge Coronet from 1950 to 1953. Later the name was used for the high-end trim package of the Dodge Royal Monaco between 1975 and 1977.

But the Dodge Diplomat as a model, and not as a trim, was introduced by Chrysler in 1977. It was based on Chrysler's M body platform and replaced the F body Dodge Aspen. It was a mid-size car available as a sedan, coupe and station wagon. The wagon and the coupe were, however, deleted in the line-up in 1981 and 1982, respectively.

When introduced, the Dodge Diplomat was available with either the 225 Slant Six engine or the 318 V8 engine while a 360 V8 was available as an option. From 1984 until it was last manufactured in 1989, the Dodge Diplomat was only available with the 318 V8.

At present standards, one would rate the performance of the Dodge Diplomat as low. With the 225 slant Six, these cars would not give you the much needed power you want your car to have. But during the time when the Dodge Diplomat was manufactured, power was not the number one criterion for selecting a car because of the oil crisis that hit the country. Rather, people would want their cars to be reliable, durable and comfortable, all of which were present with the Dodge Diplomat.
