Among the three models introduced to the US by Daewoo in 1999, the Daewoo Nubira seems to get the higher ratings. Like the other two Daewoo car models, the Nubira ranks only average at most. The Daewoo Nubira is a large subcompact car whose size comes in between that of the Daewoo Lanos and the Daewoo Leganza. It was introduced in three body styles: four-door sedan, four-door hatchback and four-door wagon. The hatchback, however, lasted only for one year and was dropped in succeeding production years. All models are equipped with a 2.0 liter 4-cylinder engine with a standard 5-speed manual transmission unit. A four speed automatic shift is available as an option for all body styles.

Daewoo Nubira’s performance is fairly good, although this is not true for all production cars. Over-all performance, which includes acceleration, braking, handling and safety, is about average and acceptable except the engine noise, which is the loudest in its class. Comparing it with the entry level Lanos and considering its price, it can pass as a capable and pleasant car.

Like all Daewoo cars, the Daewoo Nubira is not particularly of substandard quality. What makes it not saleable is the fact that the company that manufactures it, Daewoo, is in the losing end. Concerns like warranty and future repairs and services if the company would be liquidated have caused car buyers to go after the higher priced cars in its class.
