Chevrolet Tracker Sport Utility Vehicles are all over the place, everywhere you look there is an SUV rolling by. The phenomenal craze that has gripped the auto industry by the neck has everyone clamoring for one. There are some though that simply cannot afford a mid-size or a full-size SUV. The Chevrolet Tracker is the rebadged and all-new redesigned compact Sport Utility Vehicle that Chevrolet used to replace the slumping Geo Tracker. Japanese compact SUV’s were trampling the Geo Trackers chances in sales and GM decided it needed to change that. Then in 1999 the Chevrolet Tracker came out, all new in stylings and a bigger, better engine.

A compact Sport Utility Vehicle is a good alternative. They may not be quite as large and powerful as its big brothers; they still do a great job. Its lower weight provides more power for their V6 engines making them just as effective as V8’s, plus their 4X4 capabilities allows them to cut through rough terrain. Also, just because it’s a compact doesn’t mean it cant carry huge loads. It still has impressive towing capabilities albeit smaller ones. Folding seats and the tall cabin roof provides for extra long storage capacity, and for tall drivers and passengers.

New designs from generation to generation of the Tracker made it look very sporty and sophisticated. Whether you choose the two-door softtop model or four-door hardtop, it is still one of the most stylish looking in the market. Tracker's classy and modern-looking interiors are extremely comfortable and feature better ergonomics, including an innovative instrument panel that houses full instrumentation reminiscent of luxury large sedans.

Initially the Chevrolet Tracker could be availed as a four-door and a two-door convertible. Power came from 2.0-liter, 16-valve DOHC four-cylinder engine that is standard on the four-door and optional on convertibles. It produces 127 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 134 foot-pounds of torque at 3,000 through a five-speed manual or optional four-speed automatic transmission. The base motor on the two-door is a 1.6-liter inline four available only with the manual shift. In the latest offering of the Tracker, there is no more two door and only the four-door is left with a choice on either a two-wheel or a four-wheel drivetrain, power is now supplied by a standard engine for all models which is a 2.5-liter V6 producing 165 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque. A four-speed automatic is the only transmission, and a shift-on-the-fly dual range transfer case is optional on all models. The Chevrolet Tracker is one of the most affordable in its class, it offers great sense and should be on the top three of a very short buyers list by consumers.
