Chevrolet Tahoe Chevrolet is no stranger to Sport Utility Vehicles. With the Suburban alone they have tucked inside their belts almost seventy years of SUV experience. Its no wonder Chevrolet (alongside GMC) has churned out top-selling SUV’s in the past. 30 years before they have rolled out into the automobile world their own version of the Full-Size SUV, in 1994 the Chevy Tahoe came in to replace the then defunct K-Blazer. The Chevy Tahoe was designed and produced to become a go-anywhere, trail anytime and tough as a nail vehicle. Chevrolet themselves depict is as a "rugged, multipurpose family vehicle that's at home on and off the road," and true to its word, it has lived up to its hype. Chevrolet made sure that their goal is met and surpassed.

Originally based upon the Suburban, the Tahoe is a smaller version but that doesn’t mean it lacks performance and is wanting. Newer features and upgraded systems kept the Tahoe a half step ahead of the competition and are dominating the scene. In 2000, the Chevrolet Tahoe received a complete makeover. The Tahoe received a brand new platform that was stronger and much more rigid than any previous platforms. Bigger, newer and stronger V8 engines were provided to give it the extra oomph. For its newest offering, Chevy continues the tradition giving it a Tahoe that’s more at home in the back trails of the country but is gentle as can be on the suburbs and the city. With its roomy and comfortable cabin, the Tahoe proves to be a great weekend-adventure get-away contraption. This is the sport-utility vehicle that promises to handle passengers and cargo as well as it does a backcountry road.

The Chevrolet Tahoe comes in three forms, the base trim LS, the upper class tri, LT and then there is the Off-road inclination of the Z71 model trim. There are two engines obtainable. The 4.8-liter V8 is regular on the LS, and it churns out 285 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. Optional on the LS and standard on the LT and Z71 is the 5.3-liter V8 that gives a much higher 295 horsepower and 330 lb-ft of torque production. Both powerful engines provide ample power, be it in a rugged dessert or in the hills and canyons, these engines are never left wanting. But for serious haulers, the 5.3-liter V8 engine is a better choice. Standard gearbox is a 4-speed automatic, also the Tahoe is both offered in two- and four-wheel drives. Good news from Chevrolet is that by 2007, people may expect a Hybrid version of the Chevrolet Tahoe, this means that fuel consumption will be decreased with the same power if not more. Chevrolet just keeps making the Tahoe better.
