PT Cruiser
A unique fête of automobile lineage, excitement, innovation and just a bit of a drop of rebellion, the Chrysler PT Cruiser is one vehicle that stands out from the crowd and is screaming of fun. Even before its scheduled release in the spring of 2000, many customers were already lining up for a unit, many paying way beyond the sticker price to ensure that they will be among the first ones to get their hands on the steering wheel of this much hyped retro-styled automotive wonder. Injected with a little bit of Hollywood, this front drive compact wagon looked nothing like any other cars in any other dealerships. Much of the recent increase in carmakers' interest in compact wagons can be attributed to the PT Cruiser.
The PT in the tag stands for Personal Transporter, and it does exactly that. Not only does the PT Cruiser look great, it feels solid and stable. Under federal fuel-economy regulations, the PT Cruiser is classified as a truck, its design and engineering though mixes a car-like drive and comfort plus the utilitarian facets of a minivan or a SUV. Whole new suspension system from Chrysler gave the PT Cruiser a very smooth ride that’s a bit rigid but consistently soaks up road irregularities for a controlled drive.
The PT Cruiser is offered in two body types, originally there was only the four-door wagon, now they came up with the all-new two-door convertible, adding more fun factor to the lineup. Wagons come in base, Touring, Limited and GT trim levels. The convertible is offered in base, Touring and GT trim. All of these trims are catering to each personal level of needs in the PT Cruiser. The base engine provided to the Cruiser is a 2.4-liter inline four that produces 150 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. It's paired with either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission for the wagons, but the heavier convertible is fitted with a manual gearbox only. An optional engine is offered for those who want more power, on the Touring and Limited trim levels, a turbocharged version of the base engine is provided, and it provides a 30 horsepower boost. If that is not enough, the performance-driven GT level ups the ante to 220 horsepower. All this power and the great design and everything the PT Cruiser provide wraps up a great vehicle that will surely be unique and forever eye-catching.
