The first among Chrysler's new front-drive vehicles, the Cirrus came in 1995 with a very attractive and original design. It is a midsize four-door sedan based on Chrysler's JA platform. Cirrus received the Motor Trend magazine's Car of the Year award for 1995 and together with other JA cars, it was included on Car and Driver magazine's Ten Best List for 1996 and 1997. It is produced to replace the long-lived LeBaron and to compete with the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry and Ford Taurus.
Since its introduction, Cirrus gained many praises from the automotive press and it has received numerous accolades. Riding in a 108-inch wheelbase, it has an unusual interior volume. Meaning, there's an ample room in the cabin and trunk, more than what you expect and more than what its exterior size would propose. It is powered by a new 2.5-liter V6 incorporating four valves per cylinder and capable of producing 168 horsepower. It works well with a 4-speed electronic automatic transmission. It is available in two models – the LX and LXi.
Both models are fully equipped with features such as eight-way power driver's seat, air conditioning, automatic transmissions, cruise control, tilt steering wheel, rear-window defrost, AM/FM cassette stereo, power windows, power door locks and power mirrors. The LXi 2000 edition added anti-lock four wheel disc brakes, remote keyless entry, leather-trimmed upholstery and aluminum wheels.
