Ever since the industry of automobile manufacturing had flourished, lots of automobiles were produced. These are of different models, designs, body styles and platforms. Station wagons are basically those vehicles bearing a body style which is similar to a sedan but has an extended rear cargo area. Basically, vehicles like these have modified sedan bodies with a passenger area that extends to the rear window. In description, it is just like a hatchback but its cabin has full height and the rear glass is sloped not too far from being vertical. And unlike hatchbacks, station wagons have windows in the cargo area. For several years, station wagons became very popular among drivers until its decline was marked by the popularity of the minivans.
Now, during the times when station wagons are still making it big in the automotive market, many big shot automakers have created their own designs and models of a station wagon. One of these automakers is Chevrolet. In fact, Chevrolet had introduced several station wagons under different names in the market; that includes the Chevrolet Townsman. The Townsman was basically manufactured from 1968 until the model year 1972. This was a Chevrolet station wagon that was based on the GM B-platform, a rear-wheel drive body platform from General Motors.
The Chevrolet Townsman was basically available with apt powertrain and engine specification when it was first launched in the automotive market. It then bears either a V6 or a V8 engine. And with the specifications and dimensions that this Chevrolet Townsman has, it was rated as the equivalent of the Bel Air. It was even considered as more luxurious than Chevrolet Brookwood. And though some of Townsman’s critics rated it as not as nice as the Kingswood and the Kingswood Estate, many vehicle owners still loved it.
During production years, Chevrolet Townsman received several refinements in order to meet customer needs and demands. That includes improved engine specifications, refined interior feels and elegant exterior designs. A year before Chevrolet ceased producing it, the Chevrolet Townsman received a power rear window; making it more convenient to access its rear cargo area.
