Launched in 1990, Chevrolet Lumina was offered in sedan and minivan body style. The Lumina sedan was Chevrolet's second largest sedan and its entry in the six-passenger midsize sedan market. It is produced as a replacement for Chevrolet Monte Carlo and Celebrity. Lumina sedan shared its W-Body midsize car platform with other cars along other brands of General Motors such as Buick Century, Oldsmobile Intrique, Pontiac Grand Prix, Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme and Buick Regal. The production of this car ended on May 1, 2001 to give way to Chevrolet Impala.

Chevy Lumina sedan received a complete restyling in 1995 model year to help it build its own name on the street as well as on NASCAR racetrack. It is teamed with General Motor's smooth 4T60-E four-speed automatic transmission. Furthermore, the LTZ package gained a more powerful and dependable drivetrain.

Chevrolet minivan on the other hand was dubbed as "APV" which means All Purpose Vehicle. Built on a 109.8-inch wheelbase, Lumina APV is available in base and CL editions offering five various seating configurations that allows it to accommodate up to seven passengers. It is packed with long lists of standard and optional features. All Lumina APVs are equipped with power rack-and-pinion steering, all-independent suspension and front-disc and rear drum brakes. They also feature a one-piece rear liftgate and a sliding right-side door. Restyled in 1994, it comes anew with shortened nose; standard driver-side airbag; optional traction control; and available Integrated child safety seats for 7-passenger models.
