Produced from 1987 through 1996 model years, Chevrolet Beretta was offered as a front wheel drive coupe manufactured by General Motors. The year it was launched, this compact, sporty front-drive coupe from Chevrolet and its Corsica mate became the second best-selling model in America.

By 1990, Berettas adopted a larger 2.3-liter Quad four generating 160 lb/ft of torque and 3.1 liter V6. The V6 engine producing 135 horsepower comes standard in GT coupe while the GTZ joined the 1990 line up with 180-horsepower Quad 4 engine. In addition, the 1990 Chevrolet Beretta is declared as one of the most unique pace cars in Indianapolis 500 history. The '91 Berettas received driver-side airbag, new steering wheel and redesigned dashboard, gauges and controls. The V6 engine is now offered as an option for GTZ.

Enhancements for 1992 model year included the addition of standard antilock brakes and additional 15 horsepower for the base 2.2-liter engine. In 1994, more powerful engines were introduced; a Z26 model with new Quad 4 engine replaced the GT/GTZ; and a new electronic 4-speed automatic transmission joined the 3-speed. Also, door-mounted front shoulder belts replaced the manual seatbelts.

For 1996 model year, Beretta's final season, the 2-door coupe version is offered in six models — the Beretta or base model, Z26, National SK, SL, SM, and SN Z26. The base model comes equipped with a 2.2-liter 120-horsepower 4-cylinder engine mated with 5-speed manual transmission while the Z26 is packed with 3.1-liter V6 that cranks out 155 horsepower and a 4-speed automatic transmission. To ensure safety and security, the '96 Chevrolet Beretta is outfitted with standard safety features such as anti-lock brake system (ABS), a driver airbag and automatic seat belts. Other features include standard air conditioning and dual power mirrors and optional removable sunroof and power windows with driver's express-down feature.
