As an answer to the fuel crisis in early 1970s, Cadillac launched the Seville in 1975 model year. Cadillac Seville was also produced in response to the growing popularity of European luxury import cars in the USA including Mercedes-Benz and BMW. The first Sevilles were manufactured from April 1975 to 1976. They were motorized by the 350 cubic inch (5.7L) V8, fitted with electronically controlled fuel injection. This engine that cranks out 180 hp allows the car to achieve 60 mph within 11.5 seconds. In 1980, GM switched the Seville to the 114-inch wheelbase K-body platform, based on the front wheel drive E-body Eldorado, Buick Riviera and Oldsmobile Toronado.
In 1992 model year, Cadillac came up with a new much more European flavored Seville that captured everyone's attention. In fact, the Seville Touring Sedan received the Motor Trend magazine's Car of the Year award for 1992. It was also included in Car and Driver magazine's Ten Best list.
