Cadillac Series 62 was classified into various generations. Each of this Cadillac Series 62 generation offered distinct features which were then improved as the next generation was introduced.
The first generation of the Cadillac Series 62 had its production from 1941 until 1942. It used a 126in wheelbase and settled on the 346 cid version L-head V8 engine rated at 150 horsepower and was available as two-door club coupe, four-door sedan and four-door convertible. Unshaken by the turmoil of the war, Cadillac resumed and offered the Cadillac Series 62’ second generation which had its post-war production from 1946 up to 1947. Cadillac Series 62 in this generation used the same engine as the first generation Cadillac Series 62: the 346 in3 Monobloc L-head V8 engine but with an increased wheelbase of 129 in. The Series 62 was available as a two-door coupe, four-door sedan and four-door convertible which used C-body platform. A C-body platform was a full-size car automobile platform that was rear-wheel drive until 1985.
The production year from 1948 up to 1953 produced the third generation Cadillac Series 62. This time, the wheelbase of the Cadillac Series 62 had been shortened to 126 in. which made it almost identical with the Series 61. The same as the first and second generation, the third generation Cadillac Series 62 was offered as a two-door club coupe, four-door sedan and four-door convertible with the same C-body platform. The distinct difference form the previous generation was the increased power up to 160 hp and by 1952 it boasted of 190 hp. Also, in this generation the Series 62 had longer hoods and styled with a one piece windshield. The fourth generation Cadillac Series 62 went into production from 1954 up to 1958 and was offered in the same three standard body types that used the C-body platform built again on the 129 in wheelbase. The engine performance of either a 346in V8 or a 365in V8 brought more power of 230 hp with an optional dual-four barrel carb setup that would produce 270 hp. By the end of its production year, the Cadillac Deville had become the sub series of Series 62
The fifth generation of the Cadillac Series 62 was produced from 1959 up to 1964 with the same body style and body platform. Though, the Series 62 was renamed to Series 6200 and the Deville to Series 6300 both vehicles were powered by a 390in engine with an output of 325 horsepower. By 1964 the Series 62 engine was upgraded to 429in with an output of 340 horsepower. The Series 62 (or 6200) was then renamed Cadillac Calais by 1965 and eventually the production was discontinued by 1975.
