The Eldorado was Cadillac's model manufactured from 1953 through 2003 model years. During this long period, Eldorado considerably came in various bodystyles and mechanical layout but it always ranked near the top of the Cadillac line. For this generation, Eldorados were powered by an 8.2 L behemoth, the largest V8 ever utilized in a production car.

Cadillac Eldorados in 1980s received smaller 5.7 and 6.0L V8s replacing the engines of the preceding models and giving way to far better fuel economy. There were also new appointments added to Eldorado for this generation. These include independent rear suspension and extreme notchback roofline that makes the rear window almost vertical.

An all-new Eldorado appeared in 1992. It was slightly larger than its predecessor and it featured frameless window glass.
