In 1965, Cadillac's entry-level Series 62 had changed its name to Calais, after the name of a French resort town. It was then offered in a 2 and 4-door hard top editions and a "formal-roof" 4-door sedan. This 4-four door sedan was a hybrid version featuring frameless, hardtop-like windows with a post in between. Calais vehicle line-up has no convertible model, thus epitomizing the slightly more expensive and well-appointed Cadillac Deville series.
The major difference between the Cadillac Calais and the de Ville segment were the available trim levels and the standard equipments offered by each trim. The standard power equipment for Calais is the 429 cubic inch V-8. In 1970, Cadillac Calais was restyled, receiving a facelift that included a grille with 13 vertical blades situated against a delicately cross-hatched rectangular opening. To lend a more refined look, the bright metal headlamps were bordered with body color and the narrow vertical taillights were made available again.
Cadillac Calais comes anew with wheel discs and winged crest fender tip emblems. The Calais signature script was located above the rear end of the horizontal lower belt molding, just in front of the chromed taillight dividers.
