The Buick Reatta was based on the "E-body" mechanicals utilized in the Buick Riviera. It is initially offered as a hardtop coupe until 1990 model year, when a convertible version was added. The Reatta was aimed as a halo car for Buick, but its sales were unsuccessful, and since Buick already had Riviera, a luxurious coupe, it decided to drop Reatta after 1992.

Powering the Buick Reatta is GM's popular 3800 V6 and it is equipped with a fully independent suspension and front wheel drive.
