Four models carried an Alfa Romeo Milano name: the Alfa Romeo Milano Silver, Alfa Romeo Milano Gold, Alfa Romeo Milano Platinum and the Alfa Romeo Milano QV (Quadrifoglio Verde). These were produced from 1987 and lasted only for two years. Alfa Romeo Milano cars marketed in Europe were known as the Alfa 75, named in celebration of Alfa Romeo’s 75 years in the automobile industry. They had different bumpers, which made them distinct from the US-marketed Alfa Romeo Milano.
Alfa Romeo Milano was a successor to the Giulietta/ Alfetta and was based on Alfa Romeo’s earlier cars. It came out in the market only in one body style, which is a four door saloon. It bears Alfa Romeo Milano’s peculiarity of having the engine at the front and the gearbox at the rear end to evenly distribute the weight in the car. Earlier engines, which included 1600 (1570cc), 1800 (1779cc) and 2000 (1962cc) engines, had lesser power outputs but it 1986, a turbo Milano was introduced, equipped with a 1779cc twin cam fitted with Garett T3 turbocharger, fuel injection, intercooler and oil-cooler. It generated an impressive 155 bhp.
In the following year, the old twin-cam was redesigned to include two spark plugs per cylinder, thus the introduction of twin-spark vehicles. Also this year, Alfa offered a 2 L version of this engine, which delivered a respectable 148 horsepower. Meanwhile a 3.0 L version of the V6 was offered in the US-marketed Milano cars. Few other engine upgrades were made to the Alfa Romeo Milano, including the most powerful 3.0 L V6 engine that achieves maximum power output of 192 horsepower. Suspension settings were also revised to match the vehicle’s extra power.
