For quite a while now Lincoln cars have proven its reliability and power to its owners. But nothing can make your Lincoln safer and much reliable than making sure that the parts work well and all damaged or broken parts are replaced.
Obviously, your car won’t move without the wheels. Even if you have a high performing engine if your wheels aren't performing well, you still won’t have a high performing car. The wheel bearing is the component that allows the wheel and tire assembly to freely turn around the spindle, in the bearing support or in the steering knuckle. The two important job of the wheel bearing is to allow the wheels to rotate with minimal friction and to support the wheel’s weight. Wheel bearings are typically lubricated with high temperature and heavy grease to allow the bearing to work with very little wear and friction.
Most of cars today, including the Lincoln, have so-called wheel bearing hubs. The wheel bearing hub is the outer housing that holds the brake disc or drum, wheel, grease and wheel bearing. The good thing about this construction is that the outer safety ring which used to be used to secure the wheel bearings is no longer needed. Instead of the safety ring, a ratchet wheel is attached to the wheel bearing of the newly installed wheel bearing hub.
There are two types of wheel bearing hub assembly – driving and nondriving. The front wheels on a rear wheel drive car are an example of nondriving. In the future, the wheel hub and wheel bearing will no longer be available separately. But just like any other car part wheel bearing hubs are also subject to wear and tear. The easiest method to determine if the wheel bearing and hub is damaged is to be sure that your automobile is parked and its emergency brake is ready. Then jack your ride's front end up so that the wheels won't touch the ground and mount a pair of jack stands under the vehicle's axle tubes on each side in order to secure your driving machine. Take one hand and put it on the top of the tire and the other hand on the bottom of the tire. Push the tire back and forth from top to bottom and if there is movement then your wheel bearings and wheel bearing hubs are worn out.
