In the cooling system, the water pump is responsible in pushing the coolant from the radiator, around the engine, and back. The coolant is the substance utilized by the cooling system in gathering the heat generated by the engine during combustion. From the radiator, the coolant flows throughout the engine where it absorbs heat. After heat absorption, it will then return to the radiator so that the heat that it contains will be dissipated. However, the coolant will not be able to move and flow on its own; it needs an outside force to push it. This is where the water pump comes in.

The water pump, like all the rest of the cooling components, must always be in its tip top condition. Otherwise, various problems may result. The most common problem that occurs when this pump is damaged is overheating. No matter how efficient the radiator is, the coolant will not be able to circulate well throughout the engine if the water pump is damaged. Therefore, engine heat will not be dissipated. Once it builds up, overheating is the sure result.
