Having a Honda vehicle is like a dream come true. We know for a fact
that vehicles from Honda are very reliable because its parts aredurable
and made of high-quality materials. But owning a Honda vehicle, even if
it’s equipped with the best and finest parts should not just end there.
You should be knowledgeable enough on how these parts function and how
to take the proper care of these parts. A little know-how on fixing and
repairing is also needed because you’ll never know the things that
might come your way while you’re driving.
Like for example, how would you know if your Honda valve cover leaks?
But first, what is a Honda valve cover? The valve cover covers the
valve train. The valve train is comprised of rocker arms, valve
springs, push rods, lifters and cam (in an overhead cam engine). Valve
covers can be removed to adjust the valves. Oil is pumped up through
the pushrods and dispersed below the valve cover, keeping the rocker
arms lubricated. Since holes which are located in various places in the
engine head helps the oil to re-circulate back down to the oil pan, the
valve cover should be oil-tight because loose valve covers are often
the cause of oil leaks.
The occurrence of major oil leaks in older vehicles is one of the most
common problems of car owners. When the engine heats up, the valve
covers expand at a different rate than the cam towers, which causes the
covers to warp, and subsequently leak. To see if your car is suffering
from valve cover leaks, examine under the car and check the bottom of
both the left and right valve covers. If there are oil drips there and
there is oil on your heat exchangers, then, most probably your valve
covers are leaking.
Inspect the ones in top also, those surrounded by the engine
compartment. They are also very prone to leaking. But some valve covers
are hard to access because they are covered with other engine parts. So
the best way to check if your valve covers are leaking is to clean the
whole engine. Then if you suspect that your valve covers are leaking,
remove them off the engine and check to see if they are warped. If your
Honda valve covers are warped, then replacing them is definitely the
best thing that you could do. And if you want to make sure that you get
replacement parts that work as efficiently as your factory-equipped
Honda valve covers, then count only at Parts Train.
