When
it first debuted on the auto world, Dodge instantly took a name
identifying it as an excellent automobile with a durable body that can get
through abusive and painful tasks with great ease and impressive
performance. With that fact, people would immediately have in mind the
kind of machines every time the name Dodge is heard. Sedans and other small cars
though are also available within the Dodge lineup. They were all
designed with the reliable Dodge parts that now showcase sleek
performance, responsive handling, ample strength and distinctively high
sense of styling.
Behind the engineering that has brought Dodge into its place now is
a technology which its engineers have put to reality, right with the
powertrain down to the smallest details. The Dodge valve cover might
just seem to be a very typical cover among the league of vital
performance parts. It works on ensuring the efficiency of the valve
train’s operation which is too important in the operation of the
system’s heart. Thus, its simplicity is inconsiderable as against its
contribution to the technical engagements.
The main job of Dodge valve cover is to keep oil in the valve train
from leaking the cylinder head. In operation, the oil is being pumped
up through the pushrods and dispersed underneath the valve cover,
keeping the rocker arms lubricated. Holes in various places of the
engine head is where the oil circulates back down to the oil pan. Thus
valve covers need to be oil-tight, for oil leakage might impair the
operation and make it stiff without the rocker arms lubricated. The
work of the Dodge valve train is being completed with the use of valve
springs, push rods, lifters, and cam in case of overhead cam engines.
Common problems regarding Dodge valve covers happen
with the earlier Dodge models. The usual cause is over-tightened valve
cover screws which cause the cover to bend. Over-tightened screws can
break or bent the thin sheet metal with which valve covers are often
made of. Regular check-up would keep the owner informed if there is any
problem with the Dodge. And through manual pinching of the valve cover
gasket, one will be able to determine whether oil leakage is on toll.
You can also do it through removing the gasket and putting the valve
cover back on to the cylinder head. When the valve cover and cylinder
head come into contact, the cover should sit flat. If it rocks, it is
bent.
Dodge valve covers come in several types of materials. Some are
made of plastic, others of composite materials, while some more of
metal. But maybe, these prototype Dodge valve covers don’t match the
new era’ fashion. More sophisticated thermoplastic valve covers are
then the perfect ones for your Dodge. They can be dressed up with
chrome, billet aluminum and or carbon fiber.
