The main job of Dodge valve cover is to keep oil in the valve train from leaking the cylinder head. In operation, the oil is being pumped up through the pushrods and dispersed underneath the valve cover, keeping the rocker arms lubricated. Holes in various places of the engine head is where the oil circulates back down to the oil pan. Thus valve covers need to be oil-tight, for oil leakage might impair the operation and make it stiff without the rocker arms lubricated. The work of the Dodge valve train is being completed with the use of valve springs, push rods, lifters, and cam in case of overhead cam engines.

Common problems regarding Dodge valve covers happen with the earlier Dodge models. The usual cause is over-tightened valve cover screws which cause the cover to bend. Over-tightened screws can break or bent the thin sheet metal with which valve covers are often made of. Regular check-up would keep the owner informed if there is any problem with the Dodge. And through manual pinching of the valve cover gasket, one will be able to determine whether oil leakage is on toll. You can also do it through removing the gasket and putting the valve cover back on to the cylinder head. When the valve cover and cylinder head come into contact, the cover should sit flat. If it rocks, it is bent.
