Sudden timing belt failures can even cause a piston and a valve to collide, which would often result to a permanently broken valve.

You won't have much to worry, however, if your vehicle is a Ford, because stock Ford timing belts and timing belt covers are guaranteed to be tough and of premium quality. But in any case that the stock timing belt or its cover gets damaged, you don't have much choice but to buy a replacement unit.
