| The timing belt in your International works by turning the camshaft(s) at ˝ the
speed of the crankshaft while maintaining precise alignment. Your vehicle can
have one to four camshafts depending on your engine. There are two types of engines
that use timing belts. The two engines are called interference engines and non-interference
engines. These kinds of engines used to use timing chains instead of belts, but
chains were noisy and expensive to manufacture. The difference between the engines
is the proximity between the pistons and the valves. A timing belt that slips
off an interference engine is more likely to cause severe engine damage than if
it were to slip off a non-interference engine. Regardless, if the timing belt
