Timing belts replaced chains on vehicles with overhead camshafts because chains are noisier and more expensive to make.  Depending on the vehicle you drive, your owner’s manual will recommend a timing belt replacement between 60,000 to 105,000 miles.  Your Alfa Romeo timing belt turns the camshaft(s) at precisely half the speed of the crankshaft as it maintains a precise alignment.  Engines may have one to four camshafts.  The two types of engines that require timing belts are interface engines and non-interface engines.  The difference between the two engines is the distance between the valves and pistons.  If the timing belt slips, by just one notch, the piston can collide with an open valve and cause serious engine damage; bending valves and breaking pistons.  A non-interface engine won’t typically self-destruct, however, with both engines, if your timing belt fails, your engine will shut down.  Sometimes, a timing belt will break without warning.  Whatever the case, if you need a new timing belt, we’ve got one for you.
