Steering is all about managing a very important task in controlling your ride. Your vehicle must be equipped with the most efficient steering system components to attain smooth control of your ride. Some steering components that work together are the steering rack, kingpins, lever arm, steering wheel, pinion gear, and the tie rod. Your Buick Tie Rod is usually circular in section and appears as a small structural rod that is intended to tie and carry tensile loads. It buckles once subjected to compression.

A Tie rod associates the center link with the steering knuckle. This set up is applicable for the conventional suspension systems and recirculating ball steering gears. The MacPherson strut suspension and rack-and pinion steering gears make use of the tie rods that link the end of the rack to the steering knuckle. From the steering center link or rack gear, the tie rod drives force to the steering knuckle. The turning of the wheels becomes the aftermath of such force. The outer tie rod end attaches to the adjusting sleeve so that a flexible length of the tie rod is managed.

Most modern vehicles are equipped with rack and pinion mechanism. Such mechanism uses the steering wheel that turns the pinion gear, which has the capability to move the rack or the linear gear meshing with the pinion from side to side. This action applies steering torque to the kingpins of the steered wheels by the effort from the tie rods and the short lever arm or steering arm. On the other hand, the old mechanism known as the recirculating ball, is the deviation on the older worm and sector design. It is still used in some trucks and utility vehicles, which have steering column that turns a large screw or worm gear to mesh with a sector of a gear. This lets the worm gear to rotate about its axis. The arm connected to the axis of the sector moves the pitman arm that is connected to the steering linkage.

The steering system in your vehicle must efficiently turn the wheels at the same rate, along the same plane at any given condition. Your Buick Tie Rod must be capable of doing its task of holding the wheels. In case you have a worn out Buick Tie Rod, do not hesitate to consider an immediate replacement.
