When you drive, most of your time is spent looking forward. You have your vision darted straight ahead, skimming through the surroundings in front, anticipating whatever comes along your way-a wandering deer, a passing old lady, a car that cuts through the lane, etc.-so you can prevent collision. The endeavor is further complicated when the night sets in or when the rain pours. You turn on your headlights to illumine the road so you can see these things; also, so that other drivers may see you, too. However, this is just half of your concern. You didn't forget your car has a rear-end, too, have you? Now there's no headlight installed there to help increase your road visibility. Instead, what you have is the Tail Light.

Because drivers usually don't pay much attention to the back end of their car, the tail lights have been tied to the operation of the headlights: that once a driver turns them on, the tail lights automatically illuminate as well. How is this done? By placing the car tail light on the same relay as the headlights. Meaning, it is wired to the same switch that actuates the head lights. And so, when a driver activates them, the tail lights turn on as well.

Now there will come a time when the driver will need the headlights and tail lights lit even if his car isn't running. This is possible since, actually, both lighting components are wired directly to the vehicle's battery. There is a switch, which when set in normal position allows an opening in the electrical circuit therefore causing the lights to stay off, that the driver (or sometimes the car computer) can activate to complete the circuit. When the switch is engaged, the car tail light and the headlights light up.

The tail lights are never to be taken for granted. If you don't pay much attention to them, they may acquire untimely damage. And you wouldn't want that because it will increase your risk of experiencing accidents, specifically rear-enders. The best way to preserve your tail lights is to equip them with an apt tail light lens. By doing so, you help guard it against premature wear and tear. If it is enclosed in this case, you prevent dirt and other detrimental elements from damaging it. Plus, the lens help magnify its illumination so it's really a nifty component to complement your tail lamp with.
