Sterling Struts |
Strut is a vital part of the suspension system. Specifically, it is a common damper type on modern independent suspension, front wheel drive vehicles and some rear wheel drive automobiles. As a major part of the suspension system, it takes the place of the upper control arm and upper ball joint which are used in the conventional suspension system. Basically, a strut has two main functions. One of its functions is to perform a damping function similar to shock absorbers. At the end of the piston rod is an attached piston working against hydraulic fluid to take control of the spring and suspension movement. Similarly to shocks, the valying produces resistance to forces generated by the up and down motion of the suspension.
Every vehicle including your Sterling has suspension parts like the Sterling strut. While strut is not well known like other parts, this is equally important like the spring and shock absorber. This has a coil spring to anchor the vehicle’s weight, a strut housing to provide rigid structural support for the whole assembly, and a damping unit within the strut housing whose task is to control the spring and suspension movement. The strut’s bottom is attached to the steering knuckle which connects to the lower control arm through a lower ball joint in turn.
The top of the strut on the other hand, is connected to the vehicle body through the upper strut mount known as the bearing plate in some cases. This special kind of bearing plate enables the strut to pivot when the wheels are turned. For it to handle slight angle changes and dampen movement of the upper end of the strut, this bearing must be significantly flexible. Now, it is a must that each component must be performing on its peak level for maximum performance. Note that suspension components do crucial functions such as keeping your vehicle at the right height, reducing the effect of shock forces, maintaining the correct wheel alignment, supporting the vehicle weight, keeping the tires in contact with the road and finally controlling the vehicle’s direction of travel. All these can only be done when all the components of the suspension system are in good condition.
To make it simpler, your strut is designed to resist longitudinal compression. Having this crucial job, you must perform a strut inspection on a regular basis. You must visually check your strut as there may be oil leaking from it as the seals wear out. This is an indication that your strut needs replacement. Note that struts need to be replaced in pairs, as this will allow strut internal valves to be probably matched. As for replacement, Parts Train is a dependable place to be. We offer struts for Sterling and other makes to match your vehicle. We will prove to you that shopping online is fun and safe because we are pleased to win your trust.
