There are two popular kinds of struts, the MacPherson strut which is widely used in modern vehicles and the Chapman strut. These two looks and designed exactly the same, only that the MacPherson is used in front wheels, while the Chapman strut is used in rear wheels. Although some vehicles are equipped with a MacPherson kind of strut in their rear suspension, it still commonly and usually found at the front wherein it provides a steering pivot called kingpin as well as a suspension mounting for the wheels.
