Jeep Speed Sensor

Are you familiar with the range of speeds as implemented by the government these days? Yes, indeed the speed limits as set by the federal government range at 40 mph as the lowest and 75 mph being the highest. Of course, these speed limits do vary depending on the street and highway capacity. So how will you be able to determine at which range your Jeep is running? The speedometer basically records the speed at which an automobile is running.

The speedometer is able to provide such information because there are the speed sensors that detect the speed of a vehicle. The gift of technology is such an amazing factor that through these sensory equipments, the information needed is vehemently given out in a simultaneous manner.

The speed sensors come in several varied forms. The common speed sensor comes in the form of a toothed metal disk that is highly mounted on the rotating shaft with a stationary detector that idly covers a magnetic coil. The detecting sensor is interconnected with a computer which then recognizes the electrical pulses created in the course of the metal teeth’s movement past the magnetic coil. After which, the compiled data is then transferred into the speedometer for the driver to visualize.

Jeep vehicles are incorporated with a two-speed sensor since Jeep vehicles are known to be traveling both the on-road and off-road tracks. The two-speed sensor is comprised of the engine sensor which actually supplies the needed data to the speedometer and the other one is known to be as the wheel speed sensor that gathers the impulses made by the wheels and later on sends the required information to the anti-lock brake system (ABS) ECU. This is the data needed to detect when the wheels get the need to lock up.

Anything that gets out of hand results to a not-so-good thing. In case your Jeep engine speed sensor gets some defects, then it is not much of a big deal. The only effect of which is that the driver would not be able to read through the speedometer the measure of speed that the vehicle is running. Meanwhile, what prompts a much greater danger is any malfunction in the Jeep wheel speed sensor. In this case, the ABS brakes freeze and therefore become of no use.

Therefore, if you start noticing that your speedometer gets no apt information, better have it checked at once. You never know which of the two-speed sensors are at risk. Should you wish to purchase your Jeep speed sensors, a wide availability of such products are offered by either the local auto parts stores near you or by the web marketers such as Parts Train.
