Almost all places implement a speed limit for drivers in order to ensure safety on the street. The limit can range from urban limits of as low as 40 mph to rural limits as high as 75 mph. The speed limits may vary depending upon the street or highway you are in to. With this, your Chevrolet S10 is mounted with the part that will let you know if the vehicle you are driving is approaching the implemented speed limit and that is the speedometer. But are you aware just how this part reads the information? This is through the help of the sensor that measure how fast you are running.
Basically, there are many different kinds of Chevrolet S10 speed sensors used in a vehicle. In fact there are a lot of vehicles that are mounted with two speed sensors that works for the two different systems. However, on most cases, the part is made up of a toothed metal disk located on a rotating shaft and a stationary detector that encloses the magnetic coil. The sensor is then affixed to a computer on which it transports the electrical pulses it creates as the metal teeth travel into the magnetic coil. Starting from the computer, the information is then transported to the speedometer or to any other component that requires the said information.
On modern vehicles most especially those that are made up with an anti-lock braking system, two speed sensors are typically installed. The first kind is the engine speed sensor which is located on the crankshaft by where the speedometer gets its data. The second kind that is present on most modern vehicles is the wheel speed sensor which is the type that gets the impulses from the wheels and the transport the data to the anti-lock braking system (ABS) ECU. After which, the data is then utilized by the system to expect a condition when the wheels would lock-up.
Now, if in case this part starts to show some signs of damage, most drivers would not mind them since there is nothing much to worry because you’ll run just fine as before. But, the problem is, the engine management ECU won't be able to calculate the engine speed and therefore you won't be able to establish how fast you are moving. This could cause you some trouble with the traffic police or perhaps let you be in a little accident jut because you did not follow the rules implemented. For replacement, you can get your Chevrolet S10 speed sensor here at Parts Train.
