Ignition is not a simple and straightforward process of triggering fuel combustion. As you turn the ignition key of your car an electric motor begins to turn the crankshaft of your engine. The crankshaft needs to be turning in order for ignition to begin. Simultaneously, high-voltage current is sent to the sparkplugs to be released as electrical sparks. The high-voltage electrical current is generated by the alternator, a type of electrical generator, the current produced by the alternator is then stored in the batteries. The current from the batteries are channeled to the ignition coil to be amplified several times. Hence, the weak 12 volts of current from the batteries is amplified to about 100,000 volts that is release as spark.

The ignition coil is an electrical transformer that increases the power of the current. It is connected to the distributor switch that synchronizes the sparks with the spin of the camshaft. The distributor has a rotor that spins to alternately open and close the circuits of the sparkplugs. Current is relayed to the sparkplugs via the sparkplug wires. Efficient vehicles such as Rolls Royce cars utilize highly conductive Rolls Royce spark plug wire to distribute the high voltage electricity.

Typically, a Rolls Royce spark plug wire has several layers of insulation materials. The first layer is typically plastic, the second layer is fiber glass, and the third layer is silicon rubber. These multiple layers are provided to protect the wire from short circuits and overheating. The layers also prevent radio frequency signals from being emitted from the wire. Radio frequency signals can disrupt the functions of the electronic components of the vehicle such as the computer and car radio. Since the sparkplug wire carries high-voltage electricity, this creates a magnetic field that oscillates. When the oscillating electrical field and magnetic field combines, they create radio frequencies that can produce interference with the electronic components of the vehicle. Sparkplug wires that are not properly insulated may affect the ignition timing and sequence of the sparkplugs. Depending on the engine configuration, the sparkplug boots may have different angles. However, the most common angle is 90 degrees.

There are two very crucial properties that a sparkplug wire should possess. One important property is high conductivity. High conductivity means less resistance to the flow of current. High conductivity ensures that very negligible amount of electrical energy is wasted as heat. The second important property of an effective sparkplug wire is good insulation. Good insulation prevents short circuits and radio frequency interference. Parts Train offers only the best sparkplug wires. We offer different brands of sparkplug wires for a variety of applications, including street car and race car applications.
