Lincoln Spark Plug Wire |
In general, spark plug wires connect the spark plugs to the ignition coils or the distributor. These wires, unlike most wires, are normally designed to have a lot of resistance. This is because resistance helps decrease radio static that the ignition system generates. Additionally, spark plug wires have high voltage insulation. It can carry 30,000 or higher volt to the ignition system. For this reason, it is not advisable to replace resistance wires unless your ignition system was designed for them. Using non-resistance wires may damage modern ignition systems that were designed with the resistance as part of the circuit.
Old spark plug wires used a metallic wire to carry the high voltage. This caused electrical interference with the radio and TV reception. Some spark plug wires also have a locking connection at the distributor cap. The distributor cap must first be removed and the terminals be squeezed together, and then the spark plug wire can be removed from the distributor cap.
When you want high performing Lincoln car you need to make sure that every part of it is working well especially your Lincoln spark plug wires. Take note that a good set of spark plug wires will enhance drivability and enhance performance for the average driver in everyday condition. But oftentimes, spark plug wire problems are hard to detect. Nevertheless, it always pays to do some detective work from time to time when you are trying to diagnose whether your wires are deteriorated.
The first thing you need to do is to check and see if the wires are clean. Keep in mind that dirty build up on the exterior of the insulation may allow some of the current to be lost. If the wires are dirty, clean it either with waterless hand cleaner or dish washing detergent. It is best to remove one wire at a time to prevent mixing them up. Check also if there are signs of arcing – meaning the spark is leaking out and jumping to a nearby ground on the engine. Be very careful in removing the wires. Do not pull them but rather grasp the plus wire and gently remove it.
