There are many things that can happen to your International spark plug wire as it ages.  First, the resistance may wear down.  When they’re new, your spark plug wires are typically very resistant.  It’s important that you never try to substitute nonresistant spark plug wires for resistant wires.  Making this mistake could cause major damage to your ignition system.  Your spark plug wire’s insulation may begin to break apart, causing cracks which leak energy to the engine body instead of delivering it to the spark plug.  The connections on your spark plug wire may eventually corrode.  The wire that’s housed inside the insulation may break due to the constant vibration.  When it’s time for you to replace your spark plugs, you vehicle will tell you.  The three most common signs of worn spark plugs are: miss-firing, hard starting, and poor fuel economy.  You may not experience all three of these signals at once, however, it could still be time for a new spark plug wire.
