Pontiac Sound Deadner |
There is a generalization that luxury vehicles have quieter interiors than economy
vehicles and there is much reason to believe that this is true. Luxury vehicles
would generally have fewer parts that rattle and fewer parts that create too much
noise. Then, luxury vehicles get more sound deadening treatment than an economy
car would normally get. But what about Pontiac vehicles? Are their interiors noisy
or not, considering that they are neither economy vehicles nor luxury vehicles?
In the current line-up of GM vehicles, Pontiac vehicles stand in the middle,
in between the entry level Chevrolets and the top-level Buicks. Since they are
mid-level vehicles, we can correctly assume that the noise level inside Pontiac
vehicles are acceptable—that is, not as quiet as the interior of a Buick but neither
as noisy as the interior of a Chevy. But acceptable interior noise levels can
still be improved, right? And one can easily do so by installing Pontiac sound
deadeners on the various interior panels of his Pontiac vehicle.
Sound deadener is a general term used for an assortment of products installed
inside a vehicle designed to control noise and/or structural vibration. In particular,
sound deadening materials try to lessen the engine noise, exhaust drones, wind
noise and road noise inside the vehicle as well as the continuous vibration of
the various body panels while the vehicle is running. These sound deadening materials
are often applied to the vehicle’s floor pan, roof, and side panels as well as
inside the doors, in front of the footwell and even behind the rear set. There
are also sound deadening materials that may be installed on the underside of the
hood and in the vehicle’s trunk.
There are many types of sound deadeners and among the more common sound deadening
materials used today are the sound dampers, sound absorbers and sound barriers.
Sound dampers lessen the vibration of the various vehicle body panels by adding
mass into it. Sound absorbers, on the other hand, use materials with cell foams
to absorb the sound waves that penetrate into the vehicle’s interior. The last
type of sound deadener, which is the sound barrier, actually blocks airborne noise
that passes through the body panels. These sound deadeners, however, are seldom
used alone for noise reduction purposes. Many sound deadeners today are a combination
of either sound dampers and sound absorbers or sound dampers and sound barriers.
So if you want a more relaxing and less stressful ride on your Pontiac, better
lessen the noise that penetrates through its body with Pontiac sound deadeners.
