A quality suspension system helps in reducing the shock forces effects and controls the height of the wheel alignment. The struts and the springs, although they can both handle the movement are not enough to suppress the impulses of a jumpy ride. This is why you install in shock absorbers in the suspension assembly. The shock absorber dissipates the shock by dampening the kinetic energy through either a fluid or air compression chambers.

The most popular type of shock absorbers today is the hydraulic shock absorbers. It is a cylinder that is filled with air or fluid as mentioned above, and inside is a sliding piston. This usually creates a soft response to the bumps and rough effects you get from irregular road characteristics; therefore giving you a comfy ride, and avoids rattling your car parts under that hood.

Besides the shock absorber the suspension system uses, there are shock absorbers too found on the wheel brakes that are made of rubber or leather discs with a pivot lever and friction springs. Of course, this is for the benefit of a safe stop. There are probably more shock absorbers that we don’t know of, but whatever it is, keep in mind that all the parts in your vehicle contribute greatly on its performance so keeping everything in good condition is a must.
