Merkur was a short-lived automobile badge marketed by the Ford Motor Company from 1985 to 1989. It was one of the few attempts of Ford Motor Company to market European cars in the United States of America and Canada. Merkur is the German name of Mercury. It had only two models, namely, the Merkur XR4Ti and the Merkur Scorpio. The Merkur XR4Ti was the three-door hatchback version of the Ford Sierra. On the other hand, the Merkur Scorpio was the American version Ford Scorpio. The Merkur Scorpio was a five-door hatchback.

Stations wagons and hatchbacks are so similar. They share basic body style and they are similar in size. Both hatchback and station wagon have integrated cargo space at the back which is accessible through a tailgate that can be opened upwards. The only significant difference between the two is the size of the cargo area. A hatchback has comparatively smaller cargo space than a station wagon. Another difference between the two is the window at the rear sides. A station wagon has windows on its rear sides. The cargo area is visible from these windows. These windows can also be opened to improve the ventilation in the cargo area.

Merkur was a performance vehicle badge. It featured a V6 engine with fuel displacement of 2.9 liters. Its optimal output is from 60 to 160 horsepower. It can accelerate from zero to 60 miles per hour within 6.2 seconds and can go as fast as 150 miles per hour. However, all of these excellent performance features are meaningless if the car is unsafe to drive. The Merkur seatbelt is one of the standard safety features that this automobile badge has. The original Merkur seatbelts are manually operated. This meant that the wearer should tighten or loosen the buckle by pulling the seatbelt tongue.
