Having been in the market for the past 35 years with a new version every other year has made Honda Civic one of the longest running nameplates. This Japanese–branded car, although small for the naturally large Americans have proved their worth when it kept on coming up with new body styles and versions and innovations that is premium quality. One of these is the lighting system which is considered as one of the safety equipment for every vehicle.
Although our vehicles will run without a headlight, doing so could cause damage not only to you and your vehicle but also to other people if you do it at night time and during low visibility conditions. So, it is still essential to check our headlights before driving and make the necessary replacements if we find that our headlights are not working anymore. It can either be that the lens is broken or the bulb gets exhausted. Replacement can be easy, that is if you know what type of headlights you have. Because nowadays, there are different types of headlight such as the Xenon, halogen, projector, HID, parabolic and many more. But according to construction there are only 2 kinds of headlights: the composite headlight and the sealed beam headlight.
The Honda Civic manufactures both the composite headlamp and the sealed beam headlamp. To distinguish the 2 types, you will have to see whether the lens is made of glass or plastic. The composite headlight uses plastic lenses and they have the different components as separate unit. The Honda Civic sealed beam aside from having a glass lens also contains all the components which are reflector, a filament and the glass lens as one unit. Basically, you have to replace the whole headlight even if it is just the bulb that’s not working. On the other hand, the wear and tear of the Honda sealed beam is not so fast because being enclosed in one glass unit immunes them from dirt, moisture and other elements that can seep through the composite headlight. But, does that mean that the bulb inside the sealed beam will not get exhausted and wear down or that collision could not happen. These things will then make replacement necessary.
