Dealing with a vehicle trouble like overheating can be so frustrating so to speak. This is especially true when you find it hard to detect the real cause. There are stuffs you would need to check out before you can be sure what really went wrong. First off, you would need to inspect the thermostat. A stuck thermostat can stick or freeze in the closed position blocking the flow of coolant to your engine. One easy way to check whether the thermostat is not open is to feel the upper radiator hose. The engine must become warm when the engine starts to warms up. The thermostat may not be opening if it doesn’t get warm.

When your vehicle is loosing the right amount of coolant the cooling system is in big trouble, too. This is however easy to diagnose as your Merkur radiator would be low in fluid and there will be a pool of coolant on the floor. When this happens, you must look for the leaks particularly around the hoses and around the welds of your radiator. When there is no leak found, you might need to take it to a shop and have the cooling system pressure tested. The water pump may also be faulty. Note that this is the one responsible for circulating the coolant. If it is faulty, it won’t be able to run the vehicle for more than a couple of minutes without overheating.

Another probable cause is the cooling fan. If this does not come on automatically once the vehicle reaches operating temperature or when the A/C is turned on, the fan has become defective. This will run all of the time but has a clutch which makes it turn faster when the engine heats up. Note that when the vehicle is warm, the fan should not turn too easily with the car turned off. Above all, radiator is most generally the major cause. You must understand that the radiator can accumulate deposits of rust and debris. This happens especially when the radiator fluid has not been flushed on a regular basis. You have two options when your radiator has been clogged. It’s either you have it cleaned in a shop or replace it. This however depends on the severity of the clog or damage.

So for your Merkur, always do radiator inspection to avoid troubles. Know that overheating can lead to a great deal of damage to your vehicle. Hence, always make sure to fix your vehicle with its minor problem or take it your trusted mechanic shop whenever necessary. And if you need to replace parts like the radiator, Parts Train is here to assist you. We have the Merkur radiator for you as well as other quality engine parts. We would be pleased to serve you and make you one of our happy customers.
