One of the most frequent causes of vehicular breakdown is a broken radiator.  Improper maintenance is the most common reason for radiator failure.  By periodically checking your radiator and maintaining it accordingly, you can cut your chances of breaking down drastically.  Some common radiator problems are leaky fittings or seams; fin deterioration and bond failure; electrolysis; cracked tank; and fan damage.  Leaky fittings and seams are a result of wear.  Fin deterioration and bond failure is a result of corrosion due to continuous exposure to dirt, water, or road salt.  Scaling and sediment build-up inside your radiator is called electrolysis and happens when dirty or mineral-rich water is used by the cooling system.  If caught early, you may be able to clean out the radiator with a radiator cleaner or a rod and brush.  A cracked tank may be the result of corrosion or internal pressure.  Fan damage is a result of an improperly fitted fan.
