Triumph Oxygen Sensor

Combustion is the center of all the operations in your Triumph model. Many of the systems in your vehicle work only as support to the engine and to the combustion process. Power production requires two main elements, air and fuel. Every auto and every engine has a particular specification for the amount of air and fuel that is needed in every combustion cycle. This amount must be maintained and the ratio between the air and the fuel must be kept in its ideal level to keep the combustion efficient and to avoid the occurrence of various driving problems. For this purpose, your vehicle is equipped with a Triumph oxygen sensor.

An oxygen sensor is mainly a component of the exhaust system. This sensor is mounted in the exhaust manifold and works in coordination with the engine management computer, sending data to the ECU as it reads the air-fuel ratio from the exhaust passing through the manifold. Ideally, 14.7:1 is the air-fuel ratio needed during combustion. However, since there are usually imperfections in the supply of air and fuel to the engine, this ratio may not be always attained. There are usually two air-fuel mixtures that result – the rich mixture and the lean mixture.

Rich mixtures have too much fuel, while lean mixtures have very little fuel. When there is too much fuel, some of this fuel may not be burned and will flow with the exhaust gases out. This is bad for emission since unburned gases greatly contribute to air pollution. This will also excessively wear out the catalytic converter since the converter will be overworked in converting the unburned gases into harmless substances. On the other hand, when there is very little fuel, nitrogen-oxide pollutants are also the most probable results. Aside from that, this can also cause problems in the condition and performance of the engine. Therefore, there is a need to maintain the ideal air-fuel ratio. The oxygen sensor works to detect whether the ideal ratio is achieved and then sends data to the ECU. The ECU will now perform the needed adjustment until the correct ratio is attained. This way, combustion and emission are kept in their best level.

If you notice some emission problems in your Triumph, then you better have its exhaust components checked. And when you find out that the problem comes from a damaged sensor, then you better get a Triumph oxygen sensor replacement. Parts Train offers a wide array of oxygen sensors for your vehicle and for other auto makes and models. We also have auto parts and accessories for your replacement and upgrade needs.
