Friction is ever present even in the most efficient and sophisticated machines. Friction is ever present even in a Rolls Royce engine. The seemingly frictionless operation of the Rolls Royce engine is the result of the perpetual bathing of the engine in oil. The oil acts as both lubricant and coolant of the moving parts of the engine. Friction and heat are minimized and mechanical motion is optimized because of the oil. However, even in a superbly engineered machine, such as the Rolls Royce engine, cannot totally be enclosed or sealed. Some oil drip from the engine block and the crankcase. The excess oil that drips from the engine block is caught by the Rolls Royce oil pan. This pan is a removable pan or bowl that is connected to the bottom of the engine block. The excess oil is then circulated back to the system when it reaches a certain level. This pan has bolts and gaskets that secure the pan in place.

All moving parts of the engine, the pistons, the crankshaft, and the gears produce friction and heat as they move. Friction and heat reduce the mechanical output of the engine. Friction slows down the motion while heat wastes the input energy into an energy form that is useless to the machine. Heat causes the expansion of the mechanical components, making them less responsive to energy inputs. When the mechanical components expand, they become more deformed thereby clogging the whole mechanism. Oil acting as lubricant and coolant make it possible for the mechanical components to maximize the energy input without wasting too much on friction and heat. The oil circulates the engine block and the oil cooler radiator, some oil also circulate the transmission shaft. The excess oil that drips from the engine block unto the oil pan may also contain impurities. Before the excess oil is circulated back to the system it first undergoes a series of filtrations.

Without the oil pan, excess oil from the system will be totally wasted and may contaminate other components. In ordinary conditions, oil pans last as long as the engine functions. Oil pans may not need periodic replacing. However, oil pans need periodic cleaning. Some debris and oil impurities may contaminate the oil pan. The durability of the oil pan is also affected by oxidation. Some impurities such as water coolant may find their way into the oil pan which may cause corrosion.

Replacing the original Rolls Royce oil pan of your vehicle does not need to be a financial burden. Here at Parts Train we offer the best of both worlds. We offer high quality replacements at very affordable price.
