If you decide to replace your own Jeep oil pan, make sure that you know exactly
what you’re doing before you start. One of the most common mistakes made by customers
who install their own oil pans is excessively tightening the gaskets. By over
tightening the gaskets, you push the oil pan and front cover inward and around
the bolt holes. When this happens, the gaskets are crushed by the pressure and
as your new oil pan tries to stop the oil leak, the gaskets are unable to function
properly and you end up with a worse leak than the one you were trying to repair.
Make sure you the gaskets aren’t being squished out from under the oil pan to
avoid oil leaks in the future. You will find your oil pan bolted at the bottom
of your crankcase. It is manufactured from a thin piece of steel and molded into
a deeper section to maximize its function.
