One of the errors that most often occur when people decide to install their own oil pans is overly tightening the gaskets. If you accidentally over tighten your gaskets, the oil pan and front cover will be forced inward around the bolt holes and the gaskets will be crushed from the pressure. While the new oil pan tries to stop oil leaks, the gaskets will be rendered useless and the oil leak that you thought you were fixing will end up getting worse. If you have an oil leak, the oil pan is usually the first place you will notice it. This is because after you turn you engine off, the oil spills down the sides of the crankcase and gathers in the oil pan. The oil collected sloshes around while the vehicle is running and will eventually find a way out if you’ve got a leak.
