The most common place a vehicle starts leaking oil is from the oil pan.  Your Infiniti oil pan can be found bolted to the bottom of the crankcase.  It is manufactured from a thin piece of steel.  To optimize its function, it is molded into a deep section under the crankcase.  The oil pan functions as an oil reservoir.  It also acts as a host to the oil pump and oil drain plug.  Once your engine is turned off, oil flows from the sides of the crankcase and collects in the oil pan.  Because the oil pan catches all this oil and the oil is sloshed around continuously, you’ll discover a leak coming from the oil pan before you’ll find one anywhere else.  You can certainly replace your own oil pan, but the job must be done carefully.  Excessive tightening of the gasket can result in a worse oil leak than the one you’re trying to fix in the first place.
