You can find your Ferrari oil pan at the bottom of your crankcase. It is detachable
and manufactured from a thin piece of steel. The oil pan operates as an oil reservoir
mounted at the bottom of the crankcase and molded into a deep section. Your oil
drain plug and oil pump both rely heavily on the oil pan. When you turn your
engine off, oil flows down from the sides of the crankcase and gathers in the
oil pan. This oil is swished around continuously when the vehicle is running;
therefore, if you have a leak, the oil will find its way out from here before
anywhere else. If you have a leaking oil pan and you’re thinking about replacing
it on your own, know that you must work carefully. The gaskets can be crushed
easily by over tightening the bolts. Excessive tightening can also cause the
oil pan and front cover to be pushed inward and around the bolts. You could end
up with an oil leak that’s worse than the one you’re trying to fix.
