To optimize the function of your Chrysler oil pan, it is molded into a deep section and mounted to the bottom of the crankcase so that it can act as an oil reservoir.  The oil pan is constructed from a thin piece of steel bolted to the bottom of your crankcase.  It works as a host for your oil pump and oil drain plug.  The oil runs down the sides of the crankcase and collects in the oil pan once you’ve turned your engine off.  The oil pan is the most likely place you’ll find a leak if you’ve got one.  This is because the oil collected in the oil pan constantly swishes around and will eventually make its way out of a hole.  Improper installation of a replacement oil pan can result in a leak that was worse than the one you had before.  Be sure that you don’t over tighten the bolts when you install the new oil pan.  Over tightening will push the oil pan and front cover inward around the bolt holes and smash the gaskets.
