Your Cadillac oil pan works as an oil reservoir by being molded into a deep section at the bottom of the crankcase.  It is a removable component made from a thin piece of steel bolted to the bottom of the crankcase.  The oil pan works as a host for the oil pump and oil drain plug.  After you’ve turned your engine off, oil spills down from the sides of the crankcase and gathers in the oil pan.  Since the oil collected in the oil pan constantly swishes around, a leak can be found quickly if you’ve got one.  Replacing your own oil pan may save you a lot of money, but it’s a job that must be done carefully.  Make sure that you don’t over tighten the bolts because it could smash the gaskets and push the oil pan and front cover inward around the bolt holes.  Once you’ve smashed the gaskets, the oil leak will worsen.
