Basically, there are two external side mirrors in a Rolls Royce vehicle. These mirrors are commonly encased in chrome-plated housings that accentuate the body finish of the vehicle. Internal mirrors may also be present in most models. The most common internal mirror is the rear view mirror placed overhead of the front passenger cabin. The main purpose of the mirrors is to provide rear visual field for the driver. Because of the mirrors the driver is able to see other automobiles behind the vehicle. Unlike other safety devices, such as air bags and seat belts, rear view mirrors are preventive safety devices rather than proactive safety devices. Rear view mirrors do not arrest or absorb the body momentum of the passengers during collisions or braking. Rear view mirrors simply allow the driver to anticipate potential accidents. Most rear view mirrors have convex surface to allow greater field of view. However, this type of mirror does not provide accurate depiction of spatial relationships. Hence, some rear view mirrors simply integrate a convex mirror.

Some rear view mirrors are equipped with signal lights that flash in synchrony with the tail lights and turn signal lights. Other rear view mirrors are electronically controlled to automatically adjust polarization to minimize light glares from other vehicles during night time.
