Suzuki Knock Sensor

Although fuel combustion is technically an explosion which is necessary in enabling the engine to function, an inappropriately timed explosion can be detrimental to the performance of the engine. Inappropriately timed fuel explosion can cause the whole engine machinery to stop functioning. It is like blowing air to the flame a candle. This phenomenon is called engine knocking or pinging. It occurs when an incompletely burned mixture of fuel and air is suddenly ignited before the flame front of the main combustion can reach it, just before the optimum moment of the four-stroke cycle. This results in the interruption of combustion. The premature explosion sends shockwaves throughout the engine block which can be heard and felt if strong enough. However, there are instances when weak engine knock occurs. This may not totally halt the combustion process, but it can undermine the efficiency of the engine. Fuel will not be optimized. Horsepower and torque out put will be disproportionate to the actual fuel input. Nonetheless, engine knock can be minimized or totally eliminated by adjusting sparkplug timing and fuel/air ratio. This can be done by monitoring engine knock using a Suzuki knock sensor.

Suzuki knock sensor monitors engine vibration cause by knocking or premature combustion. The sensor does this by comparing the normal vibration of the engine to a sudden and irregular shockwaves produced by engine knocking. The data are sent to the onboard computer and the computer, in turn, make appropriate adjustments with regards to fuel injection, air intake and sparkplug timing. If engine knocking is not detected early, no matter how weak it might be, can result in the inefficiency of engine output and can also lead to engine damage. An engine knock sensor, such as the Suzuki knock sensor, sends electrical signals to the onboard computer. The signals have corresponding vibration frequencies that the computer can interpret. Appropriate adjustments are automatically done whenever the vibration frequencies are beyond the normal vibration range of the engine.

Aside from installing a knock sensor, engine knocking can be prevented by other ways such as using fuel with higher octane rating, reduction of cylinder pressure, retarding of sparkplug ignition, improving combustion chamber design, increasing fuel injection and reduction of charge temperatures in cylinders. Some of these cannot be accomplished by the car owner. Some of these alternative options are prerogatives of car manufacturers because they entail the redesigning of the engine. Hence, installing knock sensor is still the most cost-efficient way of preventing engine knock.

If you are looking for a reliable knock sensor for your vehicle, you can trust Parts Train in providing you with the right product. We offer a wide selection of high-quality aftermarket automotive products, including knock sensors, at very affordable price.
