MG Knock Sensor

Performance is the highest criterion that is typically used for the selection of an automobile. However, MG sets another standard with its beauty that equals its performance. True to that, MG automobiles are among the major automobiles that embody engineered craftsmanship on top of their high end efficiency. But, this performance is not made; it is earned through the continuous innovations which are being developed and the employment of performance and safety devices that help the engine attain its peak performance. One of these performance and safety devices is the MG knock sensor.

The years past have featured vehicles that embody either performance or beauty, but MG has broken the barrier between the two and combined beauty and performance in its models. This is now the overall power that you see in every MG auto, very much the same with the one that you have. This total performance involves numerous devices and support systems or parts for the engine to unleash its peak power. Generally, these devices are categorized under safety or performance-boosters, although the end results are all to enhance the efficiency of your vehicle.

The MG knock sensor is one of the many devices that manage to secure the engine from harboring damage due to the cylinder phenomenon known as engine knock. This device is made of an electrical coil wrapped around two ceramic rods with a magnet between them. The ceramic rods are directly affected by the vibrations in the cylinder that disturbs the current that passes through the magnetic field of the knock sensor, which sends back irregular signals to the engine computer. This is possible as the knock sensor pierces on the side of the engine.

The knocking in the engine is caused by the inaccurate mixture of air and fuel in the cylinder head during the compression stroke. There are two types of engine knocks that can be detected by a knock sensor, the mild ping and the severe knock. The mild ping is characterized by sounds like pinging marbles and minimal vibrations. The severe knock, on the other hand, sounds like someone is banging on the door with intensified vibrations. This is what the knock sensor senses and it sends signals to the engine computer, where the knocks are determined.

Knocking can cause engine stalling. The engine computer depends greatly on the knock sensor for the engine’s safety. This is why proper maintenance should be administered. But if wearing starts to imperil the knock sensor of your MG, you can scout an aftermarket replacement of the same quality from Parts Train. Here, MG knock sensors are of wide array, where you can pick the exact product to fit your vehicle. Aside from this, Parts Train also offers a complete line of auto parts and accessories for all auto make and models.
