The intake manifold is located between the carburetor and the cylinder head. In cases of L-head engines, the manifold is mounted to the side of the block. While in the case of the I-head engine, the manifold is mounted to the cylinder head. Although the main function of the intake manifold is the even distribution of combustion mixture, it can also serve as mounts for other components like carburetor throttle body, fuel injectors and other engine accessories.
